A group of concerned citizens has compiled a list of 1300 alleged illegal aliens living in Utah, and mailed it to government officials, state agencies, law enforcement, and media outlets. Instead of checking a sampling of the data to determine accuracy, the Republican governor of Utah chose to attack the messenger:
Republican Gov. Gary Herbert wrote in a tweet Tuesday that he has asked state agencies to investigate the dissemination of the list….
Apparently an earlier letter from the group to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Salt Lake City, sent in April, was ignored. At that time, they wrote:
We observe these individuals in our neighborhoods, driving on our streets, working in our stores, attending our schools and entering our public welfare buildings.
We then spend the time and effort needed to gather information along with legal Mexican nationals who infiltrate their social networks and help us obtain the necessary information we need to add them to our list.
These citizens have done the government’s job for it. According to Homeland Security Newswire they have compiled:
…the names and personal information of 1,300 people, whom the anonymous group contends are illegal immigrants, …most of the names on the list are of Hispanic origin; the list contains highly detailed personal information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, workplaces, addresses, and phone numbers; names of children are included, along with due dates of pregnant women on the list…
And what do these illegal aliens look like? Are they here to contribute to our country, or to DEMAND a handout? Are they loyal to the United States, or to the country they came from? You be the judge:
Some may describe this as performing a civic responsibility, others may say it smacks of vigilantism….
By whatever name, our country needs concerned citizens now more than any time in our history, save the Revolution, to preserve our freedoms and values. We need more groups like this in all the states. And we need state and local governments that will use the valuable time and effort that they have devoted to doing what our government should have done.
