Barack and Michelle Obama’s visit to Mumbai, India will cost about $200 million per day. They will land in Mumbai on November 6 for meetings to explore opportunities for United States businesses to participate in the growing affluence of India’s markets. The Economic Times has the pricey details:

US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle will be extremely busy in Mumbai, upon landing on November 6 for a two day India visit. As the world’s most powerful man and his wife zip around the city visiting the 26/11 memorial on Marine Drive, the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mani Bhawan and other locations in south Mumbai, the security obviously will be water-tight….

The Obamas will stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel….

Obama’s personal security staff itself will be huge, and it has already started making its own arrangements in Mumbai. “A team of secret service agents has already arrived, and has surveyed the areas of his stay and the roads and places on his itinerary,” the officer said.

To ensure fool-proof security, the President’s team has booked the entire the Taj Mahal Hotel, including 570 rooms, all banquets and restaurants. Since his security contingent and staff will comprise a huge number, 125 rooms at Taj President have also been booked, apart from 80 to 90 rooms each in Grand Hyatt and The Oberoi hotels. The NCPA, where the President is expected to meet representatives from the business community, has also been entirely booked.

The officer said, “Obama’s contingent is huge. There are two jumbo jets coming along with Air Force One, which will be flanked by security jets. There will be 30 to 40 secret service agents, who will arrive before him. The President’s convoy has 45 cars, including the Lincoln Continental in which the President travels.”

Since Obama will stay in a hotel that is on sea front, elaborate coastal security arrangements have been made by the US Navy in consonance with the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard. “There will be US naval ships, along with Indian vessels, patrolling the sea till about 330-km from the shore. This is to negate the possibility of a missile being fired from a distance,” the officer said.

Obama leaves Washington tomorrow for a nine-day trip to India, Indonesia, and South Korea.

The liberal press fawned over candidate Obama, a man with no relevant experience.  He’s an ameteur, they suddenly realize now.  And it is coming from all sides.

The leading liberal rag, the New York Times, notes his foreign policy failures in an article stingingly titled Diplomacy 101:

We were thrilled when President Obama decided to plunge fully into the Middle East peace effort. He appointed a skilled special envoy, George Mitchell…. Nine months later, the president’s promising peace initiative has unraveled.

Peacemaking takes strategic skill. But we see no sign that President Obama and Mr. Mitchell were thinking more than one move down the board….

In the Mideast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to have outmaneuvered Obama, forcing him to retreat publicly from a call to freeze settlements. And in Afghanistan, while a decision on troop deployments appears imminent, the public display of mixed signals by senior military and U.S. officials over many months has created a dangerous power vacuum, further undermining America’s already low credibility….

Writing at the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan refers to Obama as, “An icon of a White House that is coming to seem amateurish.”

Democratic sympathizer and opinion journalist Elizabeth Drew writes at Politico:

A critical mass of influential people who once held big hopes for his presidency began to wonder whether they had misjudged the man. Most significant, these doubters now find themselves with a new reluctance to defend Obama at a phase of his presidency when he needs defenders more urgently than ever…. …embarrassment gives these people a new reason … to conclude that he wasn’t the person of integrity and even classiness they had thought….

OUCH!!!

Then there is Leslie Gelb, the primo liberal spokesperson as president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations. Writing for the Daily Beast, he calls the Obama presidency “Amateur Hour at the White House.”

….the … limited value per day of presidential effort suggests a disturbing amateurishness in managing America’s power.

Gelb goes on to describe Obama as “clumsy” and “fumbling.”

WHEW!!!

Well, now that the leading liberal journalists and opinion-shapers have finally seen the light, perhaps it will be considered allowable for the lock-step Obama-sycophant press to describe his clay feet.  However ideologically liberal, journalists are still basically sharks at heart, and now there is blood in the water.  We shall see.

Tuesday, the President will address the nation’s public school students urging them to take their education seriously.

Critics have organized boycotts claiming the White House is pushing leftist ideology and social change doctrine through public schools via the power of the executive branch.

It would be one thing for the President to hold a press conference as school commences to encourage students to do their best.

It is quite another thing for the President to direct the Secretary of Education to send letters and lesson plans directly to principals and teachers prior to the deliverance of an extended speech piped directly into classrooms across the country.   Teachers were also urged to have students read biographies about Obama prior to the speech, biographies that depict Mr. Obama as a messianic figure.

Sensing a growing personality cult promoting radicalism in schools, parents have rapidly organized resistance to the entire exercise, rightly perceiving the White House is trying to influence students to adopt the Obama socio-political point of view.

Others have pointed out that the President’s intentional circumvention of school district superintendents is a breach of protocol signaling the White House has no regard for parents, voters, local community sentiment or the school boards elected to represent those sentiments.

In view of Obama’s stated goal to establish a civilian security force as powerful and as well funded as the U.S. military, in view of his efforts to regulate guns and destroy the 2nd Amendment, in view of his obvious efforts to regulate journalism with the appointment of a diversity czar at the FCC, in view of his legislative efforts to regulate the internet in the event of “crisis,” and in view of his past activities in Chicago to radicalize public schools in association with terrorist Bill Ayers, is it any wonder parents are alarmed this President is elbowing his way into the classroom to solicit the support of students (future voters) in his grand quest to “remake America?”

Yesterday was Barack Obama’s birthday, an occasion to compare his version of his life story with actual facts. One of my favorites is his soulful declaration that the civil rights demonstrators marched across a bridge, enabling his black father to get together with his white mother, and so our future president was born! A touching tale, except that he was born in 1961, and the bridge march didn’t happen until 1965. I like to think of this as his “time machine story.”

Glenn Beck did the birthday celebration yesterday, and it has now been posted to YouTube. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I want to share it with you, dear readers.

“…. then there’s the “44.” We all know he’s the 44th president, but come on, it’s his 48th birthday. Are we celebrating his birthday, or celebrating that he’s president?

JD, one of our frequent correspondents, adds:

It’s hideous, but it has the theatrical trappings Obama himself most wants, and needs*: Lots and lots of flashy presidential symbols (i.e. seals/medallions). It’s cake ‘bling,’ no less.

Remember the phony presidential seal that Obama displayed just before he assumed office? In his mind, he had already (albeit prematurely) ‘assumed’ office (pun intended).

And to think that the media used to make fun of Michael Jackson’s military/medallion-style outfits. But MJJ was a producer/dancer/entertainer, not POTUS!

The whole Obama shtick reminds me of some corrupt African potentate. Now why is that?

A black Harvard professor got detained, and without checking facts, Barack Obama played the race card. The best summary of initial events comes from The Loft:

Police were called to the home of Gates [Obama friend and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.] by a neighbor. The neighbor saw a man trying to force his way into Gates’ home, and was concerned that there might be a burglary taking place. The police arrived, and it turned out that it was Gates and his driver who were trying to force open the door. The police asked Gates for identification at which time he became belligerent and uncooperative. Because of this, the police charged him with disorderly conduct. The charge was later dropped.

Those are the facts, but here’s how it went down.

As the police report states, Sergeant James Crowley first met the caller outside of her house. The report indicates:

“She went on to tell me that she observed what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the porch (of Gates’ house). She told me that her suspicions were aroused when she observed one of the men wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry.“

According to the report, Crowley could see Gates in his house through the front door.

“As I stood in plain view of this man, later identified as Gates, I asked if he would step out onto the porch and speak with me. He replied, “no I will not.” He then demanded to know who I was. I told him that I was “Sgt. Crowley from the Cambridge Police” and that I was “investigating a report of a break in progress” at the residence. While I was making this statement, Gates opened the front door and exclaimed “why, because I’m a black man in America?” I then asked Gates if there was anyone else in the residence. While yelling, he told me that it was none of my business and accused me of being a racist police officer.“

In the report, Gates told Crowley that he had “no idea who he was messing with” and continued to call him a racist police officer. Additional requests to talk with Gates outside were met with “ya, I’ll speak with your mama outside.” Gates was repeatedly warned that he was becoming disorderly, but continued the tirade. After these warnings, Crowley placed Gates under arrest for disorderly conduct.

Asked about the arrest of his friend during his press conference last Wednesday night, Barack Obama made these three points (see video):

1. “Any of us would be pretty angry.”
2. “The Cambridge police acted stupidly.”
3. “There is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.”

We beg to differ with Mr. Obama (we’ll call him president only when we see a valid birth certificate).

1. People with a perennial chip on their shoulder get angry. The rest of us would be grateful to have the police come so promptly to protect our property, and would not become abusive and profane.
2. The Cambridge police acted within the law. What would be really stupid would be to NOT enforce the law due to favoritism. The president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers said, “What we don’t need is public safety officials across the country second-guessing themselves. The president’s alienated public safety officers across the country with his comments.”
3. Obama’s third point is really stupid and illogical. This was not a situation in which the statistics of racial profiling would apply, such as a traffic stop. It was a call to a possible burglary at a private home, and the police would have detained the person found at the location regardless of his color.

In this gratuitous attempt to stir up racial sentiment before learning the facts of the case, Obama joins the ranks of agitators like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, recalling the 1988 Tawana Brawley case and the 2006 Duke University lacrosse case. Hardly presidential.

But, as it turns out, the arrogant Obama has a history with the Cambridge police:

….As first reported in March 2007 by the Somerville Times, Harvard law student Barack Obama accumulated 17 unpaid parking tickets between 1989-1991 – and never paid the fines ad associated penalties totaling $375 until a few weeks before announcing his presidential campaign.

In other words, as a practicing lawyer in Chicago, he allowed these tickets and penalties to remain unpaid; as an Illinois State Senator he allowed these tickets and fines to remain unpaid; and as a United States Senator he allowed these almost-two-decade-old signs of his disdain for the law to remain unpaid….

Only when he was afraid that the media would dig this up as he launched his presidential campaign did he swallow his scofflaw attitude and pay what he owed to Cambridge….

But the unexpected diatribe at Wednesday evening’s press conference reveals a long-standing and perhaps deep-seeded attitude toward the Cambridge police department – and maybe toward authority in general….

As for his entirely irrelevant remark about racial profiling, Obama could hardly have chosen a target that would make him look more stupid. From Yahoo! News we learn this about the police officer:

The white police sergeant criticized by President Barack Obama for arresting black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his Massachusetts home is a police academy expert on understanding racial profiling.

Cambridge Sgt. James Crowley has taught a class about racial profiling for five years at the Lowell Police Academy after being hand-picked for the job by former police Commissioner Ronny Watson, who is black, said Academy Director Thomas Fleming.

To single out a demographic because of skin color is indeed racist. Ask yourself, how does this sound to you?

The idea that led to the founding of Orion Energy Systems received a presidential salute of sorts today. President Barack Obama just finished speaking at a White House roundtable on clean energy efficiency attended by Neal Verfuerth, Orion president and chief executive. Obama saluted Orion….

All terrific press for Orion, except that Obama kept pronouncing the company’s name wrong, calling it OAR-ee-on.

After finishing his remarks and talking with a few people, the president returned to the microphone and said his prepared remarks led him to pronounce the firm’s name wrong.

“I suspect this is Or-EYE-on as opposed to OAR-ee-on. Just wanted to make sure that when I’m giving you a plug, that we’ve got the right plug. It’s Or-EYE-on.”

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, 46 days old on Tuesday, has run into some speed bumps, created because of a series of missteps… It’s too early to say whether the gaffes slow Obama’s momentum — or if they become barricades, extracting a more significant price for the Illinois Democrat’s White House bid. They are getting noticed.

During an interview with National Public Radio when he first ran for the US Senate in 2004, Barack Obama said that he supported a ban on concealed carry of guns:

“Well I, I, I, I continue to, I continue to, uh, uh, support a ban on concealed carry laws.”

During another speech, he let slip that the reason he would not confiscate privately owned guns was only because he could not get the support in Congress!

The WSJ Washington Wire describes a rally in Pennsylvania, you know, the place where the bitter folk cling to God and guns:

A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president….

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said.

So now we know. He really wants to take our guns away, and it is just a matter of time until he gets the votes.

Barack Obama has not offered a vault copy of his birth certificate to show the American public that he is eligible for the office of president. There are two logical reasons for this — either he is ineligible OR he is so arrogant that he feels no need to reassure the electorate. Either dishonesty or arrogance should disqualify him in the eyes of the voters.

A purported facsimile has been posted on a pro-Obama website by his supporters (see right, and click on image to pop open a larger representation). The information specific to the individual birth is filled in with a proportionally spaced type font, in block letters. This is most apparent when you look at the letter “eye” as it appears in the words

• Caucasian
• Hussein
• African

If you have difficulty seeing this, try opening this much larger image which you can examine even more closely by using the zoom tool that appears in place of your cursor/pointer over the image, or by adjusting the zoom level percentage in the lower right-hand corner of your browser.

The use of a proportional font to define the fixed fields of information required to register a birth could be explained if the Hawaiian forms were created in a print shop using a type setter. That would be expected. What is not explainable is the use of a proportional font for the fill-in-the-blanks information specific to the individual birth. That is not consistent with prevalent 1961 typewriter technology.

The IBM Selectric typewriter, the first machine capable of proportional spacing, was introduced on 23 July 1961. Barack Obama’s birth was registered on August 8, sixteen days later. Are we to believe that within sixteen days of its premier at a technology trade show, the unit was procured for use by the Hawaii Department of Health? There is no bureaucracy on earth that functions so quickly.

Barack Hussein Obama’s background, words and deeds indicate that he will help Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez spread the cancer of “socialismo del siglo XXI” (Marxism) in Latin America and prevent U.S. friends from defending themselves. Chavez and his allies — Marxist dictators, guerrillas, Islamic terrorists and Russians — are all hoping for an Obama victory.

During the last Presidential debate, responding to McCain’s support for Bush’s free trade proposal with Colombia, Obama repeated Chavez’s propaganda against Colombia. Mary Anastasia O’Grady of the Hispanic American Center for Economic Research (HACER) responded with facts:

“The history in Colombia right now,” [Obama] said, “is that labor leaders have been targeted for assassination on a fairly consistent basis and there have not been prosecutions.”

Mr. McCain should have blown the whistle right there because bearing false witness against your neighbor, who also happens to be a friend, is a foul. Labor killings in Colombia have gone down sharply in the past five years and convictions have gone up. Mr. Obama was wrong. Moreover, Mr. McCain missed an opportunity to ask Mr. Obama how he squares his antagonism toward Colombia — whose president has an 80% approval rating — with his promise to boost America’s image abroad.

An American politician ought to know better than to deliver a morality lecture to Colombia. American demand for cocaine, which funds Colombia’s worst criminality — including the bloodthirsty Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) — has nearly wrecked that beautiful country. Colombians, who have bravely cooperated with the hapless U.S. “war on drugs,” have paid a steep price….

As a Journal editorial on Friday explained, from 2002 to 2007 the number of murdered Colombian union members dropped by almost 87%. By any fair standard that is progress, especially considering the pattern Mr. Uribe inherited. In 2000, 155 unionists were murdered and in 2001, 205 died. The numbers only started to come down when he took the helm.

Chavez has been working hard and investing millions to undermine Colombia, the only real U.S. ally in Latin America. Files in the computer seized by Colombian forces in a raid that claimed the lives of terrorist Raul Reyes and 23 of his comrades exposed Chavez’s efforts to undermine Colombia’s government.  Additionally, among the files in that computer, there was a letter from Raul Reyes to the Communist FARC Secretariat indicating that U.S. leftists were interested in Hugo Chavez’s plan to persuade leading Latin American nations to help get the FARC removed from lists of international terror groups. The letter also indicated that those “gringos” had said that “Obama will be the new president and that Obama will not support the Colombia Plan nor the signing the TLC treaty” (Bush administration’s free trade agreement with Colombia).

Obama and Chavez share much more than their determination to undermine America’s allies, such as Colombia, and help America’s enemies, such as FARC. Obama has a great deal in common with Chavez and also with other Latin American Marxists — Evo Morales (Bolivia) and Rafael Correa (Ecuador). Their egos, campaign strategies, promises, speaking abilities, and false Christianity (based on Liberation Theology) are very similar, and so is their eagerness to supposedly help the poor and the middle class by redistributing the wealth of those nasty rich people.

By the way, the wealth redistribution is not helping the middle class or the poor in Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador. The middle class and the poor in those countries are doing much worse than before.
